 The School was established on 4th of October 1999 with only eleven pupils, today after about 9 years the population of the school is almost 500. The founder Mrs. A .T Maurice Diya is a retired vice principal with the Lagos state government. She put in 16 yrs before retiring voluntarily.

 She was an only child for ten years and before her father passed on he used to tell her that when she was a child no body dared take a child out of her presence. She had to be sent on an errand before a child was taken away from her presence.

 At Sherwood Private School all hands are on deck to see to the total welfare of every child. The proprieties is always at her desk before 7:15am. She knows all her pupils by their first name and surnames. The Nigerian curriculum is used at Sherwood Private School and our children have been faring well at home and also internationally.

 The school is equipped with all the basic amenities of a first class school e.g. a very spacious playground fully equipped with large outdoor gadgets, a music room with state of arts equipments, and I.C.T. room, well stocked library, a fine art studio, a sick bay, Home-Economics department, inter- science laboratory, basic technology workshop and multipurpose hall that can accommodate a thousand pupil the school have three school buses.

 The school commenced it's basic (7) JS1 class on the 4th of October 2007 and at the moment everything has been put in place to see the students through.

 The Nursery/Primary and Secondary arms of the school has a staff strength of 60.
